News of a Hyning guest

Friends of Christine Winn, a long-time visitor to Hyning, were shocked and saddened to hear of her sudden death earlier this month. Aged 71, she had just returned from visiting friends in Wales and was planning to stay at Hyning the following week, when she became seriously ill and died a week later.

Christine's many close friends were her family and her gift for making lasting friendships formed a large part of her character. Immensely generous with her time, after retirement from her job in an estate agency, she was never at a loss of something to occupy her time, volunteering for an animal charity and gardening in the grounds of a hospice. Christine loved animals, nature and the countryside and was a regular visitor to Hyning for the gardening weeks.

A commited Anglican, she was also involved with her local church, giving her time to the PCC and visiting Hyning on retreat with a group from her church annually for 20 years.

Due to the current situation with the Corona virus, Christine's funeral will be a private committal at Oldham crematorium this afternoon, 31 March.

A close friend said: "Sadly, it was not the funeral we planned, which would have been at St Anne's Church, Royton. Later in the year, as the situation improves, a memorial service will be held at St Anne's.

"Christine had a simple and trusting faith in her Lord and we know that she is safe in his loving arms. It would be good if all her friends could come together in prayer for her at 2pm today."

Permission given by her legal Executor to include this on our website and link to Facebook pages.

Guest house closure

In order to comply with the advice of the Bishops and the Government, this is just to let you know we will be closing the guest house on Friday evening. The Bishops have said that there is to be no public celebration of Mass and so Fri am will be the last public Mass until further notice. As many of the community are over 70 it is safer to close as well. The community will continue to pray but behind closed doors! It doesn't mean that we aren't praying for you, our families and all our friends, oblates and local parishes. We will still be active on social media and asap will post links to streamed Masses, services etc. Pray for us, we will pray for you and our world in this dark time... #hyning #keepcalmandpray!

News update

I am sure you are all following the latest developments concerning the health regulations over Corvid-19. At the moment all the community are well and no-one as far as we are aware, has been exposed to the virus. We are all observing the NHS and Government hygiene recommendations. We are still open but there have been several cancellations from groups and individuals. Refunds will of course be given in that situation. We await decisions over public celebrations of Mass, especially in the run up to Easter. We will keep you updated of any changes in this policy. We keep all those affected very much in our prayers.

January news

At present we are closed for a few more days. if you are planning to come to Mass or attend any of the Offices, it would be worth checking with Sr. Mary Bernard or ringing just in case there is a change of time next week. We reopen Friday 31st January. One important event that took place in January concerned Annabelle our french novice. She became Sr. Pauline on the 11th January at our Mother House in Lille. There are some photos of this event on our Bernardine Facebook page but here are a few as well. Annabelle took Pauline as her name because it is the name of her mother and because of her devotion to the Apostle Paul.

Have a look at the gallery and we ask you to continue to pray for Sr. Pauline and for other members of our novitiate.

First profession of Sr. Mary Gabriel

On the Saturday 23rd February the community at Hyning had the joy of celebrating the First profession of Sr Mary Gabriel. Most guests will remember her as Julia who was a volunteer with us before she joined us. Her family came over from Germany, along with friends and relatives.
